Acting as part of a professional team including surveyors, landscape architects and professional fund-raisers, RPA Architects offered to assist The Calthorpe Project in Camden who faced financial crisis following the withdrawal of local authority support.
The Calthorpe is a unique inner city oasis – a community garden and centre where people learn to take care of each other and the environment. A range of services and facilities are provided for some 2000 people annually including vulnerable families with young children and adults with learning or mental health issues as well as the wider local community.
The gardens receive a further 30000 visits annually and while a sports pitch has been opened recently with great success, a feasibility study will explore potential development of part of the 1.2 acre site in Gray’s Inn Road, just 500 metres from Kings Cross Station, in order to provide day to day funding.
