The Rise was a small unoccupied single storey flint and stone gatehouse located on a triangular site of almost half an acre within the North Wessex Downs AONB, near to the popular Thames side town of Pangbourne in Berkshire.

When RPA Architects were asked to design a contemporary replacement dwelling and obtain planning permission the main issue was the effect it might have on the character and appearance of the surrounding area. We specialise in tackling and overcoming planning constraints and we addressed any such concerns by designing a built solution which takes advantage of the contours of the site and incorporates split-level floor layouts.

Excellence of design is especially important in sensitive locations and was key in this instance. External materials include modern through-coloured render, natural stone and Japanese burnt timber cladding. Internally a number of unique features will combine to create a stunning new home.

With work now underway on site completion is anticipated shortly.
