Volkswagen Group (UK) Limited - Project Focus
Volkswagen Group's National Learning Centre With Volkswagen's parts storage and distribution operations amalgamated on a single site elsewhere our Client's warehouse building at Milton Keynes became vacant. The need for a bespoke company car handover facility had been identified, together with a shortage of office space and the pressing need for a modern, purpose built training facility where technicians from all over the UK could attend specialist courses to familiarise themselves with the very latest in emerging automotive technologies. Demolition of the 10,000m2 steel framed building was considered, but our in-depth feasibility studies showed that it was both practicallly and economically viable to consider its re-use. Our subsequent brief was to explore and establish a design solution for the entire building. The design philosophy and its execution met all Client expectations, transforming a simple portal-framed warehouse structure into a modern flagship training facility with highly serviced workshop facilities and state-of-the-art classrooms as well as a major exhibition space and related ancillary areas linking to further facilities nearby. Main Contractor John Sisk & Son won a two-stage tender for the project and maintained an excellent working relationship with both our Client - Volkswagen Group (UK) Limited - and the Design Team which we established and coordinated as Architects and Lead Consultants throughout. Practical Completion of the 10 month JCT Standard Form of Contract was achieved on time and within budget.
