Building a new home in the countryside

So many obstacles, but we can help. We can even make it fun!....

We are often approached by clients who want to build a new home in the countryside. At RPA Architects we have considerable experience in how to negotiate the pitfalls which might lie ahead. We are always happy to meet potential clients to hear what they have in mind and recommend a way forward. Our article ‘New Houses’ serves to provide a brief introduction, but every circumstance is different and we always advise anyone considering a project of this sort to get in touch at the earliest possible stage.

Planning constraints vary from location to location. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) sets down guidelines for local authorities to follow in forming their own Local Plan and related policies, but these can differ substantially from one region to another and as they say ‘the devil is in the detail’. We work with a great many local planning authorities and pride ourselves on the level of success we achieve.

Of course the story doesn’t end with planning permission! More often than not clients ask us to act on their behalf throughout their journey, developing the technical design required to actually build a property, obtaining competitive quotations for them, letting a building contract and then administering it – taking care of financial and quality control aspects throughout until it is time to take possession and move in.

As one client put it; “We are so grateful to you for steering us through the whole process of building our new home…you helped us to see the potential of the plot and carried a dream into reality, Memories of watching the house emerge from the ground….so much has been achieved in an amazingly short time and it has only been achieved because of all your invaluable professional expertise – added to this considerable patience, helpful design ideas and even supplier suggestions. We are truly delighted with the result and love the house”.
