RPA Architects were first engaged to secure planning permission for the change of use of this redundant village pub in Blewbury in order to create a family dwelling. Extensive internal alteration was required to convert its large kitchen and bar areas into spaces suitable for modern living whilst a new staircase was inserted to serve what became a characterful and well-appointed five bedroom dwelling.
Now a second phase has been instigated by new owners and we were appointed to design additional family living space at ground floor, improved bathroom and utility facilities and bespoke wine storage.
The building is located in a conservation area and near to a number of listed properties – a sensitive approach was required therefore in order to gain consent for the modern addition which was sought. Planning permission has been obtained and a flat roofed link element will provide a dining area connecting the large family kitchen to a new vaulted ‘pavilion’ which will afford a unique and exciting living space. All new areas will incorporate extensive glazing overlooking the delightful walled garden.
